All about Courtney

Hi!  I’m Courtney, and I’m so glad you’re here!  This is my little slice of blog heaven where I can post about all of the things that I love most: crafting, home decor, baking, and organization!!

Three words that others often use to describe me are: creative, organized, and a planner.

I consider myself to be a pretty creative person with an extreme passion to create new things.  I love decorating (and redecorating) a house until it feels like a home and I am always looking for the next project… if only our budget allowed me to do it all in the time frame I originally had in mind.  Anyone else out there have this problem?  :)

Some say I’m OCD when it comes to organization… Everything has a special place and I love to  group and color-coordinate like items!  Containers, buckets and baskets are my friends… I am always on the lookout for ones that can add to a beautiful home decor when displayed.  I am also known to label EVERYTHING because I believe it makes life easier… especially when you want others to help put things back where they belong!

Lastly, I was born a planner and I never leave the house without my planner or a notebook in tote (yes, I do it the old fashioned way because I love to write and I’m obsessed with colored pens)!  Ever since I was a small child, I’ve mapped out my entire life far into the future.  This plan has changed a number of times along the way and I’ve recently accepted that as just a part of life.  I have this dire need to have a plan in place at all times… even if it’s just a temporary one.  Without it, I feel completely lost and it usually results in a brief panic attack (luckily this has only happened a time or two in my whole life so far).

I’ve spent the last 8 years as an Elementary teacher teaching grades K, 1, 3, & 4.  First grade is by far my favorite… I have taught it for five years and it holds one of the dearest places in my heart!  Due to a serious passion for all things literacy, I am also currently working on my masters in Reading Education as well as undergoing a dyslexia therapist preparation program.  On the side of teaching, I have plans of continuing to grow my portrait photography business and I plan to continue writing my blog.  I do love it when my plate is full!

I am happily married to the man of my dreams!  He means more to me than words can express.  He is my rock, my complimentary other half, and speaks for the left-side of my brain when I’m constantly overtaken by the right.  I couldn’t imagine life without him!

We have the sweetest dog one could ever hope for.  His name is Hurley.  He is some kind of pit bull/great dane/lab mix.  We rescued him when he was about 3 months old after my sister-in-law found him in the feed shed at the animal wildlife sanctuary she worked at.  He has enriched our lives since day one!

In June 2013, we expanded our family by rescuing another puppy. We call him Django {the D is silent}. He is very sweet and super snuggly,  but a little on the crazy side at times. He has a lot of anxiety when he’s alone, so we are trying to find a solution to keep him from destroying the house when we’re gone. He absolutely loves Hurley and likes to copy cat whatever he does.

Here are a few extra tidbits about me:

  • I LOVE the holidays!  Christmas, Thanksgiving & Halloween are my absolute favorite!
  • Fall is my favorite season… I just wish we had it here in Texas.
  • My favorite things to do are photography, decorating, organizing, scrapbooking, and crafting.
  • I try to follow a Paleo lifestyle… I’m pretty good until the holidays hit.  Then, I have a hard time getting back on the wagon.
  • I love to bake!  Baking pies and cupcakes are my favorite.
  • My favorite food is fruit… strawberries, pineapple, green grapes, oranges, and apples with almond butter {yum!}
  • I love chick flicks… Sweet Home Alabama and The Holiday are two of my favs.
  • I love a good mystery book.  Mary Higgins Clark is my favorite author.
  • I’ve never had a cavity or broken a bone.
  • And last but not least, I have a HUGE fear of water and sharks thanks to watching Jaws at the early age of 4!

Well, that’s me in a nutshell.  Thanks for taking time out of your day to get to know me better.  I hope you enjoy the rest of the blog and come back to visit often!
