Project Organization: the Garage {the finale}

I have finally finished the garage organization project!  I’m sure some of you were wondering when the finale would be revealed.  I didn’t forget about it.  I tried REALLY hard to have it finished by the end of May, but it seems like May was here and gone all in the blink of an eye!  This project was a huge undertaking and it was first on my to-do list before I could fully jump into June’s summer time fun theme. I am so glad that it is finally over, but this one may actually be my favorite out of all of the other organization projects so far.

Before I show you what it looks like now, let’s take a little walk down memory lane, shall we?  Here is a quick look back at what it looked like before and in the in-between.

Since the middle of December, our garage has been home to all of my school stuff.  All of the boxes took over nearly a third it.  And while I didn’t like to think about it, I knew it was time to find all of my beloved teacher stuff a new classroom to call home again.

So, I finally decided it was time to start preparing for my teacher garage sale come May.  After getting all of my school stuff out of the garage and into the house to sort through, I was finally able to start organizing this space.  Surprisingly, it only took me a few hours to finish the project.  Drum roll please…

I started by enlisting my hubby to help me move all of the empty boxes into the attic.  Then, I removed everything from the shelves and started categorizing things with like items.  Things that didn’t belong in the garage were found a new home that made sense or thrown out.  Only two new plastic bins were purchased {from Target} to organize some of the items.  When putting things back onto the shelves, I put items that are used often on the middle shelves and put items that aren’t used regularly on the top and bottom shelves.  Danny also helped by installing some hardware on the back wall to hold the outside broom, weed whacker, and shovel.  To finish it all off, I found a new home outside for the trash can because I can’t stand the smell of it when stored inside of the garage and gave the floors a good sweep.

Can you believe how much space we have now??  With everything stored along the perimeter of the garage, the middle of the room is completely open!  I absolutely love this end result and know that Danny is very happy to have his garage back.  :)  And as an added bonus, it’s in better shape than before all of my school stuff moved in.

Let’s take one last look at the before and after side by side:

Well, what do you think??  Was it well worth the wait?  Which organization project was your favorite?
