Project Organization: the bathroom

Hey!  Hope you’re having a fabulous week so far.  Just stopping in today to share a few tips and tricks to help keep the bathroom organized.  This will be our last organization project for the month of May! {Well, other than the garage.}  It was a quick and easy one once I got all of the necessary storage containers.  :)

The master bath in our rent house only has two cabinets to store all of our bathroom supplies and products.  Unfortunately, this just isn’t enough, but we are making do.  Staying organized is one of the best ways to alleviate this problem.  Here is where we started in the cabinet underneath the sink:

While this attempt is not horrible, it’s not great either.  The large wicker basket was a good idea, but it doesn’t always make it easy to find what you are looking for.  Bigger is not always better.

So, in order to get this room in better shape, I did the following:

  1. Remove any items that don’t belong in the bathroom and find them a new home that best suits their purpose and use.
  2. Take inventory of what items need to be housed in a storage container and make a shopping list.
  3. Go shopping for organization containers.
  4. Categorize like items together either on the shelf or in a storage container.
  5. Label storage containers.

Again, I went shopping at Target.  It seems to be my store of choice!  :)  Below are the storage containers I chose for this project.  I ended up with seven of the clear ones and the one canvas bin.

Ready to see how it all turned out??  Check out these “after” pictures.  It is amazing what a couple of storage containers can do to change a space!

Here is what the left side of the cabinet underneath the sink looks like organized.  The canvas bin in the back now houses all of my curling irons and hair brushes.

The right side of the cabinet underneath the sink now looks like this.  It is one of my favorite parts of this organization project.  The clear containers house a variety of our bathroom supplies while the small mesh basket holds all of my nail polish and nail files.  The labels make it super easy to find exactly what you’re looking for.  I used my Silhouette machine to whip them up.  :)

The cabinet above the toilet got organized with a few of the clear containers as well.  Taking a handful of the items off of the shelves and categorizing them into the buckets was a quick way to straighten up the clutter.

Last but not least, here is a bonus piece for this organization project.  It was a last minute decision, but is my absolute favorite part!!  I was feeling quite crafty over the weekend and decided to add this piece in order to organize all of my make-up brushes.  I wanted something that would look nice to display out on the counter.  Check back in a few days and I’ll tell ya all about how I made it.  :)

See ya soon!
