Adorable Easter Baskets

Easter is just around the corner and for some of you {with children}, it’s time to start thinking about Easter baskets!

I still remember what Easter was like for me as a child.  Coloring Easter eggs, waking up to a basket full of candy and treats, hunting for eggs before the dogs would find them and eat them… These are all memories that I hold dear and can’t wait to share with children of my own someday.  But do you know what my favorite part of  Easter was??  It was my Easter basket. I was so very fond of it.  We had 3 different colors… One for each of me and my two sisters.  One was lavender, one was peach and one was mint green.  None of them were assigned to one particular sister, so it was always a surprise Easter morning to see which one was filled with your treats.  I was pretty attached to the mint green one and once I got old enough, I took it upon myself to make sure I always ended up with it.  In fact, I still have that Easter basket today… it’s in a box with other Holiday decor from my childhood.  :)

A year ago, I came across these adorable Easter baskets made from fruit baskets.  I couldn’t resist and decided to make one for my nephew for his first Easter.  Here is what his basket looked like:

So after his little sister arrived almost two months ago, I knew I would be making one for her as well. They are super easy to make and take less than 10 minutes to put together.  All of your supplies can be found at either Hobby Lobby or Michael’s.  I bought the apple basket for 50% off a few weeks ago at Michael’s.

Here are the supplies I used:

  • 1 apple basket
  • 2 inch wide ribbon in color/pattern of your choice {I love the polka dots}
  • hot glue
  • small string or ribbon in coordinating color of your choice
  • blank tags
  • coordinating scrapbook paper (1 sheet)
  • doubled-sided scrapbook adhesive (or double-sided tape)
  • Easter stamp
  • alphabet stamps
  • ink pad in coordinating color of your choice
  • single hole punch

To make the basket, view the tutorial here.  I followed it step by step except for the name tag part.  Instead, I stamped out my niece’s name using small alphabet stamps onto the blank tag, added the Easter stamp to it, backed the tag with scrapbook paper, punched through the hole, and tied the tag with the small string to the handle underneath the bow.

Here is what my niece’s basket looks like:

Adorable right?  Now for the fun part… Filling it!  Although I don’t have kids of my own just yet, it doesn’t mean that I haven’t thought about what I would put in my kiddos’ Easter baskets someday.  And while I grew up on a basket filled with jelly beans, chocolate bunnies and marshmallow peeps, it doesn’t mean I would do the same for my own children… Kids, especially small ones, don’t need all of that sugar!  So I’ve come up with a list of 20 alternative items for all of you moms out there that don’t want to stuff your kids’ baskets with sweets.

Anyone out there have anything to add to the list??  Please comment and share your ideas!  I hope this list gave you at least a couple of new ideas and has inspired you to get creative as you plan your kiddos’ Easter baskets this year.  There’s more Easter ideas to come… see you soon!
